What is an Ingrown Toenail?
An ingrown toenail occurs when the edge of a nail grows into the surrounding skin, causing inflammation, pain, and discomfort. Left untreated, the nail can cut into the skin, leading to infection and severe pain.
Initially, irritation from the nail causes a buildup of hard skin under the nail, increasing the discomfort. Infection can set in, making it difficult to walk or wear shoes.
Ingrown toenails are most common in the big toe but can affect any toenail. This condition is frequent in teenagers but can happen to anyone. If you have diabetes or circulation issues, untreated ingrown toenails can lead to serious complications.
Don’t let pain disrupt your life—book your treatment today.
How to Treat an Ingrown Toenail
Our podiatrists can remove the nail edge to relieve pain and prevent recurrence. We also offer guidance on maintaining foot health at home, assessing footwear, and treating underlying conditions like flat feet or bunions that can contribute to ingrown toenails.
For persistent cases, a simple in-office procedure called Phenol and Alcohol (P & A) permanently removes part of the nail under local anaesthetic. Most patients recover quickly, returning to normal activities within 1 to 2 weeks.
SWIFT wart therapy is a medical microwave technology that is highly effective at resolving warts, verrucae or papillomas.
A focused microwave signal is emitted into the skin to a predetermined depth to ensure only the wart is treated.
A gentle process called Heat Shock occurs within infected skin cells. This causes the wart to release certain proteins into the circulatory system, allowing the immune system to recognise the infection and begin to fight the virus.
